From Local to Global for Impact
Save the Children is an agent of change and part of a global movement for children. As a member of this movement, it recognizes that local and national actors are essential for children to be able to exercise their rights. Therefore, Save the Children seeks to strengthen, rather than replace, existing national and local capacities.
Save the Children places partnerships at the heart of its Theory of Change, which means that we promote them as a key ingredient in ensuring the success of all other elements.
Partnerships therefore influence how we seek to:
- be innovative — by co-creating innovations with our partners;
• be the voice — by supporting the development of long-term, sustainable and independent voices of and for children; and
• achieve results at scale — by working with partners and thereby expanding the reach and sustainability of our efforts.
As an international NGO and part of civil society, Save the Children undertakes relevant efforts:
- with children, adolescents and young people as rights holders, promoting their participation and empowerment;
- with caregivers, as key actors responsible for child development, supporting mothers, fathers and extended family members so that they can provide appropriate guidance as children and adolescents exercise their rights;
- with civil society, as a key actor in the public agenda for children’s rights, supporting the development of a civil society that works in the best interests of the child;
- with the different levels of the State, as duty bearers, strengthening their capacities and institutional frameworks.
Save the Children believes that transferring greater capacity, resources and power to national and local actors will lead to more timely, appropriate and effective results for the most disadvantaged, vulnerable and marginalized children and their communities, and will contribute to better fulfilment of the rights of children, adolescents and young people.
This issue of our newsletter aims to show in practice the localization policy and, in particular, the “From Local to Global for Impact” scenario, which has guided Save the Children’s strategic outlook around the world since 2021.
